Forgive us for the self-congratulations but we’ve been shortlisted for a second award in less than six months. Owner and director of Elephant Creative, Helen Hammond was this week revealed as one of three finalists for Woman of the Year, the flagship category in the Gloucestershire Women in Business Awards.

Run by Gloucestershire Media, publisher of The Citizen, Echo, Agenda magazine and South West Business, the awards “shine a spotlight on the women at the heart of the county’s business community.”

The judging panel, made up of strategic managers from Gloucestershire College, Gloucester Quays, GE Aviation, Coutts and Co, Gloucestershire Chamber of Commerce and more, made their decision on the shortlist last week.

Sarah Pullen, managing director of Gloucestershire Media, said: “The entries were very good. There are some admirable women in this county who juggle business and family life. We have an enormous amount of talent.

There are some new names amongst this year’s entries as well as some established business women who deserve recognition.”

The Woman of the Year award recognises a woman who has made significant personal contribution to the success of the company they run or in which they are employed. The judges were looking for examples of personal involvement in the company’s growth, expansion and move into new products or services, plus the more personal qualities that have made the entrant successful and their involvement in community life in the county.

The winners will be announced at the Women in Business Awards evening at Hatherley Manor Hotel on March 21.

Having been presented with a Highly Commended in the company section of the national Women in Marketing awards at the end of last year, this is a fantastic way to start 2013 – we’re all keeping our fingers crossed.
